Members of Parliament Betray Guilty Conscience When Swearing Allegiance to Charles III
As proof of Canadian sovereignty, Prime Minister Mark Carney invited Charles III to deliver his government’s “Speech from the Throne.” Whatever else one can say about what Canada is or is not – such as it is a constitutional monarchy, it is not American – one thing is certain. Its conception of itself as a sovereign nation escapes most people’s comprehension, especially when a foreign monarch comes to deliver the “Speech from the Throne” which is said to put forward the agenda of the government for the 45th Parliament.
