Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding Between Islamic Republic of Iran and United States of America

On June 17, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei announced that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the U.S. has been officially finalized after being signed digitally by the presidents of both countries. U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed the signing of the MoU. “It’s signed,” he said following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the G7 heads of state meeting in Evian, France.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stressed that the agreement is based on the principle of “step for step.” He said Iran would halt its commitments if the U.S. failed to uphold its obligations under the MoU. Ghalibaf stressed that Tehran remains aware it is negotiating with “an untrustworthy enemy that breaks its commitments,” warning that Iran’s response would depend on adherence by the U.S. to the agreement.
